Goals

The SIM laboratory gathers a set of experts in modeling and instrumentation, integrated in projects regarding the sciences and technologies of environment and space. They share the concern for the future perspectives of environment evolution and the free generalized access to new technologies regarding computing, modeling and instrumentation. These can be used to enable a better quality of life for the upcoming generations.

International Collaboration: GRAVITY CLOUD ESPRESSO MICADO NAHUAL

Research Interests

  1. Climate evolution in Portugal, scenarios, impacts, adaptation and mitigation measures along the line of the work developed in the SIAM projects. Study of the risks associated to the climate change in Portugal.
  2. Studies on renewable energy use and the impacts of the Kyoto Protocol.
  3. Instrumentation for astrophysics following the CAMCAO project.
  4. Developmens and research on the Information Systems and data analysis (Lisbon ATLAS/TDAQ) used at CERN/ATLAS to probe the fundamental structure of the Universe Projects.
  5. Development and deployment of data management and data processing infrastructures for the study of the microcosmos, Earth Sciences and space. This is performed along the SIM gridpt cluster GRIDPT.
  6. Studies on the structure of our galaxy, the formation of stars and extrasolar planets, and on galaxies with active nuclei.
