Project Coordination
- Co-I of the consortium that is building the GRAVITY instrument for ESO
- Coordinator, in Portugal of the MAGDRIVE FP7 project. The project will design, build and test a magnetic-superconductor cryogenic non contact harmonic drive (MAGDRIVE).
Past Project Coordination
- Coordination of the Portuguese consortium in the VLTi_Spectro-Imager project for the VLTi interferometer from ESO.
- Development and Validation of the CAMCAO Infrared camera for the ESO VLT telescopes in collaboration with the European Southern Observatory - ESO-. This is a high-resolution near infrared camera that is now operating at the ESO Multi Conjugate Adaptive Optics Demonstrator. This was the first Portuguese instrument built for ESO at it is being used to validate the MCAO technique that is crucial for the future European ELT projects.
- Developmens and research on the Information Systems and data analysis (Lisbon ATLAS/TDAQ) used at CERN/ATLAS to probe the fundamental structure of the Universe. Also ATLAS Information Systems and Data Acquisition for ATLAS participating in the development of data acquisition and information systems. The projects focus on providing persistence to the TDAQ supervision objects and the detector alignment and calibration objects. (FCT 2005) (FCT 2006) (FCT 2007)
- Coordinates the GRIDPT Portuguese collaboration that gathers a team form Geophysics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics to create, in Portugal a distributed infrastructure (GRIDPT) covering these domains. This effort is now a part of the Rede Nacional de Geofísica (RNG) This project involves scientists from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, Instituto de Meteorologia, ISCTE, Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, e do LIP -Coimbra.
Project Participation
- Participates in Portuguese collaboration in the GAIA data analysis consortium in particular in the CU1 coordinating unit.
- Participates in Portuguese collaboration in the NAHUAL high resolution infrared spectrometer for the GTC telescope.
